Wilma was born August 12, 1924 in Cunningham, Kansas, the 3rd of 7 children born to Ben and Minnie Bock. Wilma grew up in a central Kansas farming community. After high school Wilma moved to Kansas City to pursue work. She worked at Pratt Whitney from 1943-1945. After WWII ended, Long Construction began the process of transitioning the plant. During that time Wilma met Eli Doelling and they married 4-26-47. Through their 28-year marriage they raised their family in Kansas City, Missouri, Wichita, Kansas and again in Kansas City, Missouri; while Eli worked for General Electric. After Eli’s death in 1975, Wilma worked for The Jones Store Co. for 24 years. She retired in 1999. She served as a dedicated volunteer for St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. She was included in the “Rosie the Riveter” memorial due to her work in a defense plant during the war. Wilma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; always working hard for her families’ betterment. She was also very grateful for the care and love of her entire family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Hugo Doelling; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Wilma’s survivors include four children; Robert (Ginny) Doelling, Elaine (Bob) Williams, Leonard (Wilma) Doelling, and Tim (Jo Dale) Doelling, grandchildren; Leonard Eli (Judy) Doelling, Jessica McGuire, Patricia Odneal, Jonathan (Ashley) Doelling, Sara (Justin) Harrison and Aaron Williams. Additionally, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great/great grandchildren. Wilma is also survived by one sister, Kathlyn Moore, one sister-in-law, Kathleen Bock, and numerous nieces and nephews.
On Saturday, November 7, a Rosary will be said at 8:45 AM, visitation 9-10 AM, Mass 10 AM, at St. Bernadette Parish, 9020 E 51st Terrace, Kansas City, MO, with burial to follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri (9020 E 51st Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64133) or American Cancer Society.
