William E. Henderson, age 84, passed away July 25, 2012. Bill was born November 20, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to C.A. and Martha Henderson. He graduated from Central High School in 1945 and attended Rockhurst College. He married his high school sweetheart, Lelah Hamilton, in 1950.
Bill worked as a concrete estimator for John Rohrer Contracting Company for many years prior to establishing his own companies: National Concrete (1975-1989) and Henderson Concrete (1989-1992). He was elected Democratic County Committeeman from 1966 through 1974. He also served as President of the Midwest Concrete Industry Board in 1985. Bill played a major role in both the building and the financing of the O’Hara High School athletic stadium and was inducted into the O’Hara Hall of Honor in 1994. Bill was a devout Catholic and member of St. Catherine of Siena parish for over 56 years, where he served in both the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.
Bill was a kind and gentle man who touched many lives with his uncommon generosity. He embodied many fine traits, but most importantly, he was a loving husband, devoted dad, and very proud grandfather. Bill was preceded in death by his dear wife of 60 years, Lelah; his parents; and his brothers Gene (Agnes), Neil (Mary), and Vincent (Fern).
Survivors include his four children: Linda (Michael) Hennessy, Bill (Connie) Henderson, Kathleen Henderson, Patrick (Karen) Henderson; his 7 grandchildren: Eric Fish, Mary Henderson, Patrick Hennessy, Erin, Daniel, Kevin, and Molly Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.
The Rosary will be prayed on Sunday, July 29, at St. Catherine of Siena at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
