William E. Frazier (Bill), passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Friday, February 24th, 2017 at the Cameron Home for Veterans in Missouri. Bill was born on August 28th, 1938 in Huntsville, Mo. to Harold and Leona (Hunt) Frazier. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charles Frazier and Martha Barber.
He is survived by his wife Priscilla, brother, Harold (Lucille) Frazier, sister, Elizabeth Hults, children, William (Julie) Frazier, Brenda (Eric) Lafollette, John (Mindy) Frazier, grandchildren, Priscilla, Zachary, Jennifer Lafollette (Shane Gill), Benjamin (Gina) Frazier, Ryan Frazier, Brooke Eriksen.
He joined the Marine Corps in 1956 and was assigned to “B” Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines and attained the rank of Sergeant. Bill was honorably discharged in1962. While stationed at Subic Bay in Manila, Philippines, he met Priscilla (Gayoso), his loving wife of 57 years.
After leaving the Marine Corps he worked for the Jones Store Company and was the Superintendent of the Metcalf South store. He joined the Kansas City Police Department in 1968 and retired in 1989 with the rank of Major. Bill was highly decorated and he had many accomplishments while at the department which included receiving Presidential recognition for his undercover drug work, being on one of the 1st SWAT teams and attending and graduating from the National F.B.I Academy. He had many assignments which included the Homicide Unit, Juvenile Unit, Drug Unit , Patrol and commanded the K-9/Helicopter Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, Purchasing Unit, and Property Crimes Unit. He was proud of the fact all three of his children followed him into serving the public.
His oldest son William Jr. (Bill) served 27 years for KCPD and retired as a Sergeant. His daughter, (Brenda) is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Mosaic Hospital and his youngest son (John) is a Sergeant with KCPD with 30 years of service. After retiring from the police department, Bill started a private lawn service which specialized in mowing and lawn care for the elderly.
Bill loved the outdoors. He was a consummate outdoorsman and he loved upland game hunting. He had many bird dogs and he took his good friends hunting with him. He loved fishing and took his family on numerous fishing trips. Every vacation property he purchased was for fishing and those places included river, lake, and ocean front property.
Bill and Priscilla spent fifteen years wintering in Homosassa, Florida and Bill would fish daily in the Gulf of Mexico prior to his failing health. Bill loved animals, he would rescue squirrels, hawks, and feral cats. His greatest rescue of all was “Pete” a giant Crane he found tangled in fishing line in Homosassa Florida. He untangled the line and fed him fish while nurturing him back to health. Pete would wait for Bill to come back to Florida every fall. Bill would whistle 3 or 4 times and Pete would fly down and wait to be hand fed.
Bill will be missed by many long time friends, several that he has known from his time in the Marines and many from his years of service in the Police Department. His quick wit and funny stories will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Mount Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
