Wauneta Ruth Whitsitt, 101, went to Heaven December 10, 2022. Known as Mom, Grandma or Waun to all of her favorite people, she kept us all on ‘our toes’. She spoiled everyone with her laughter and instilled in us a strong belief in our Catholic faith.
Famous for her roast beef dinner, our house was always the house where our friends gathered because they ‘wanted to see Waun’. Her family and friends are blessed with countless great memories of her that they will cherish forever.
Wauneta was born on February 6, 1921 in Beatrice, Nebraska. In her early years she worked at Commonwealth Aircraft, at the American Royal Building in Kansas City, MO, assembling C.G.4A Gliders. Later, as a young wife and mother she grew a love for being a ‘stay at home’ mom and was able to make a career as homemaker for many years. After her children were raised and on their own, Mom did a lot of volunteer work, mainly with Catholic Charities.
Wauneta was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anna Meyer; 5 brothers, Duke, Don, Dean, Bobby and Duane; her son Mark Steven Whitsitt and her daughter Christie Ann Whitsitt. She is survived by her 5 children, Cheryl Smith (husband Doug), Rob Whitsitt, Juli Anderson (husband Ashley), Kathy Sperry and Mary Denk; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:00 -10:30 a.m., December 20, 2022 at Curé of Ars Catholic Church. Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by the burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. There will be a brief luncheon at the church after the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Curé of Ars Catholic Church.
