Tim was born on January 2, 1957 in Kansas City, MO to Harold Childers and Beverly Quinn. As the second oldest of seven siblings, his grand generosity and huge heart were always at the core of his being, while still managing to be no stranger to mischief. The curiosity, sense of humor, and adventurousness he cultivated at a young age were characteristics that he would continue to carry throughout his life.
He graduated from Center High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1975, and shortly after moved to Columbia, MO where he started installing car stereos and learned about the audio business. While Tim was always highly intelligent, it was his street smarts and special skills with words and people that propelled him to success in his career. What started off as a sales job working for a distributor soon turned into him owning and operating his own manufacture’s and rep distribution company.
In 1985, Tim married Kathy (Gormley) Childers. The couple soon moved to Overland Park, Kansas where they built their lives. In 1991, they welcomed two children, Laura Elizabeth, and Timothy Connor, commonly referred to by loved ones as “the twins”. He was a wonderful, loving father who always led with laughter, was known for his superb storytelling skills, and worked tirelessly to help provide for his family.
Tim lived large. His personality was as big as his heart and he always knew how to put a smile on anyone’s face. He was happiest when hitting a golf ball, reeling in a big fish with his brothers, ordering too much food for the table, surrounding himself with family, debating politics, listening to Motown music, bragging about his kids, and giving back to others.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving family include his daughter, Laura of Kansas City, MO, his son Connor of New York, NY, stepmother Bert Childers, siblings Bob Childers, Steve Houser, John Childers, James Childers, Paul Houser, Charla Las Casas, and his many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the home of Bob and Mea Childers, 11325 Summit St., Kansas City, MO 64114.
In lieu of flowers, donations on Tim’s behalf can be made to Kansas City Hospice House or Amethyst Place.
