Thomas Joseph McLaury

Thomas Joseph McLaury, 82, passed away on February 20, 2019 at Village Hospice House in Lee’s Summit, MO. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 20, 1936 to James M. McLaury and Cecelia P. Connelly McLaury. He was the fifth of their six children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: brothers James, Robert, and John McLaury; sisters Joyce Kellerman and Constance Schleicher. He was also preceded by his infant son Joseph in 1962.

Tom lived in Kansas City his entire life. He graduated from Lillis High School in 1953. He served on the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department from 1957 to 1967. During these years, he began selling residential real estate on a part time basis. Real estate sales eventually became his full time career and he opened his own company, T.J. McLaury Realtors, in 1969. He was active with the local MLS Real Estate Board, serving as President in 1975.

He had a group of faithful friends from high school and standing golf dates were the norm in their later years.

His company sponsored a 3 & 2 baseball league for over 30 years.

He loved traveling and enjoyed many cruises and international trips with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, and by his three daughters: Julie (Roy) Curtis, Peggy Laches, and Anne (Paul) Pautler. Also surviving are grandchildren Michele (Buzz) Burton, Louis Curtis, Beth (Dylan) Belk, Thomas Laches, Katie Pautler, Ben Pautler, Joseph Pautler and Hallie Pautler; great grandchildren Jaimelyn, Madelyn, and Woody Burton.

Surviving also are Donna’s children Shannon (Nathan) Sutton, Shawn (Yvonne) Sweeney and grandchildren Kristin and Kaitlin Sweeney and Caleb and Madison Sutton.

Visitation will take place at McGilley Funeral Home, 12301 State Line Rd., Kansas City, MO on Friday evening February 22, 2019, from six to eight p.m. with the rosary at six. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO on Saturday morning February 23, 2019, at 10 o’clock with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to FIRE, the Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education or One City Cafe at the Bishop Sullivan Center.
