A visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri . It will be followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am on Monday, November 13, 2017, also at the funeral home.
Tom lived an incredible life. He was an athlete from a young age and he stood out on the Central High School basketball team in 1952-53. He received a scholarship to attend William Jewel College and played on the nationally ranked, winning team of 1956-57. He was honored to be inducted into William Jewel’s Hall of Fame in 2000. Tom is a Veteran of the US Navy. He then attended and graduated from the UMKC Law School. He served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of Jackson County. Tom was instrumental in getting “Walking Joe Teasdale” to the Governor’s Office and was a member and President of the Missouri State Democratic Party in 1976.
He was an avid golfer and was a member and President of the Blue Hills Country Club during the 1990’s. He was a Christian and a cherished family man.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia Cox; three sons: Chass, Tyler & Christian Cox; two step children: Greg & Gina and 6 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Tom’s name to the City Union Mission, 1100 East 11th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64106.
