Tom was born in Kansas City, MO on May 12, 1923. He graduated from Saint Francis Grade School and Paseo High School. At 18 years old, he was drafted by the United States Army where he served in the 515th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 13th Airborne Division. After the war his work career was the in the Kansas City area. Tom and Doris (nee Stockebrand) Cosgrove were married 68 years.
Tom was involved in the community beginning with Red Bridge YMCA, coaching youth football and softball while serving on various committees. He also was active in the Center School Board Planning Committee.
Tom enjoyed history, reading, music and the love of learning. His sense of humor and his quickness to tell a joke is a tribute to his Irish heritage.
Tom is survived by wife Doris, son Donald, daughter Katherine Cosgrove Van Horn (Louis Van Horn), grandchildren Tom, Emily and Lily Cosgrove, step-grandchildren Jessica, Bryan and Grant Van Horn, and brother Richard Cosgrove. He was preceded in death by brothers Bernard and John.
For the care and love toward Tom, the family is grateful to the Phoenix Home Health Care team, KC Hospice and caregiver Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either KC Hospice House or WWI Museum.
