Susan L. Varner, 50, of Kansas City, MO passed away at KU Medical Center on November 24, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Susan was courageous and valiant after her diagnosis and continued to live her life faithfully. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses from St. Luke’s on the Plaza and KU Medical for their exceptional care and dedication. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday, November 29 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 11811 Stateline Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 followed by her Memorial service at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the English Handbell Choir at the church. Susan was born on August 31, 1961 in Kansas City, MO. She was the daughter of Howard and Doris (Elkins) Glover. She married Gary Varner on September 19, 1981. Susan was adventurous; she and Gary loved to travel, and she cherished their visits to Wrigley Field. She had a passion for the fine arts, particularly ballet and music. Susan knew people, what they liked, and loved to share her gift of baking. She cooked from the heart with love and baked desserts, cookies, and of course her famous cinnamon rolls. She was active in the church and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, Youth Staff worker, and played in the English Handbell Choir. Susan was a loving wife to Gary Varner of Kansas City, MO, a dedicated mother to Matt Varner and wife, Casey of Lafayette, Indiana and to Emily Leonard and husband, Brad of Kansas City, MO, a caring sister to Ed Glover and wife, Janet of Clinton, MO, to Tricia Glover of Kansas City, MO, and to Diana Lauver and husband, Mike of Lee’s Summit, MO, a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and a compassionate friend to many.
