On August 26, 2022, Susan Story Lord passed away peacefully at age 89. Susan was born in Chicago, IL to Edward Story and Mary Scarritt, and was a lifelong Cubs fan. She was thrilled to finally see them win the World Series in 2016.
She moved to Kansas City after school and was married to James (Jim) Lord until his death in 2001. They were avid Chiefs, KU and Royals fans and those interests continued after his death.
Susan was a passionate golfer until she said her back wouldn’t cooperate anymore. She played piano and had a love for music that she passed on to her kids. She was active her entire life. She was always volunteering to help in any way she could including the Village Church, the Stephens College Alumni Association, her neighborhood, or anything she could find. When she wasn’t volunteering, she was participating in her book club, bridge club, water class, or just sipping wine on her patio with friends.
Susan is survived by son, Jay Lord; son, Pete (Lisa) Lord and his children with Phyllis Lord, Amy (Chad) TerMaat, Jennifer (Derek) Hoffine, Jon Lord, Tyler Lord; son, Chris Lord and his children Corey Lord, Kalee (Evan) Lord, Kaitlin (Wesley) Russell and many great grandchildren.
A number of years ago Susan (also know as Gram) wrote a letter to her children and grandchildren and told the story of her mother giving her a small cup that was inscribed with the words “Forget Me Not.” She said “I ask this of you.” She loved everyone and anyone who knew her will never forget her.
Services will be held for Susan on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Village Presbyterian Church on Antioch, 14895 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66221. Visitation will be at 12:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm. A short reception will follow.
