Sam was born May 8th, 1934 to Harry and Erma (Staver) Johnson in Kansas City. Sam was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. His father passed away when he was 9 years old so he went to work to help support the family. He attended high school at Central High before he joined the United States Army in 1955. Sam was a member of the Special Forces as a Green Beret and was stationed in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Alaska. He was a paratrooper during his time in the service. He went to work at Ford Motor Company in his later years as a parts manager until his retirement.
Sam and Goldie loved to buy classic cars and fix them up for shows. He was also a Hamm radio operator and had friends from all over the world. Sam enjoyed to bowl and play cards with his friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Alice and his brother John. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Goldie (Beyer) Johnson; his brother Clark Johnson; his son Greg and his wife Casey; three grandchildren Brooklyn, Danny, Natalie, and many close friends.
There will be a memorial visitation on Wednesday, September 2nd at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri from 6:00-8:00 pm. There will be a private burial in Warsaw, Missouri.
