Russell was born in Kansas City, MO on March 28, 1933, the son of Russell Henry and Agnes (Thompson) Nicholson. He received his education, until 8th grade, in the Kansas City Missouri School District. As a young boy, he managed to buy his own bicycle. With that he was able to work delivering telegrams in the downtown Kansas City area. He continued his best work days at South Town Motors then was drafted into the Army, serving in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge on December 15, 1954, he went to work for General Motors. He retired at an early age starting his own dump truck business.
On February 21, 1955 he married Betty Cole. After living in the Blue Springs, MO for a few years, they decided to move to Kansas City and then on to Belton, MO, and made it their permanent home. He resided there until he went into the nursing home on April 1, 2019, due to dementia.
Russell loved to travel, mechanic work, boating and trucking over the road with his son-in-law. He was a lifetime member of VFW 8220 Belton, MO.
Russell was preceded in death by his father Russell, mother Agnes, sisters, Flossie and Lou, brother Bob and his wife Betty.
Russell is survived by one daughter, Lisa Plough and husband, Stanley of Warsaw, MO; two sons, Vernon Nicholson and wife Karen of Deepwater, MO; Robert Nicholson and wife Wendy of Lincoln, MO, one sister, Ruby Weed and husband Bob of Eldon, MO, two brothers, Gaylen Nicholson of Liberty, MO, Lyle Austill and wife Paula of Gladstone, MO; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Last but not least - 1 spoiled Chihuahua ~ Daisy that he loved dearly.
Russell will be missed dearly by all.
A visitation for Russell will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133, followed by a celebration of life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
