Robert Henry Walje

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Duffy, two sons, Mike and Steve, their wives Christy and Jennifer, ten grandchildren, and ten great grand children.

He was born in Kansas City, MO, and spent most of his life on the Kansas side, raising and enjoying his family. During and after a career in pharmaceutical sales, Robert had enthusiasm for many interests, including photography, astronomy, barbecuing, cooking, and Boy Scouts with his sons.

Standing out as the model husband, father, brother, and grandfather, he was devoted to and dearly loved his family, selflessly serving them throughout his life. Demonstrating an indomitable spirit and positive attitude, Robert lovingly served and cared for his wife of 54 years, Glenda. She suffered from MS, even as he himself suffered from a severe neurological disease. Truly embracing his wedding vows, his independent drive enabled him to continue caring for her, despite both of them being in wheelchairs for the last 22 years of their marriage. Somehow he always found time and energy to be involved in the life of both of his boys, instilling through example a strong work ethic, persistence, and independence with encouragement.

During the six years after his wife’s passing, Robert continued to battle health problems, yet without complaint, making the best of his challenging situation. His love for others was never limited to his family. Never meeting a stranger, he made friends and was even blessed with a new love, Wanda Crawford, during the last years of his life until his passing.

His family already misses him profoundly and is grateful that his last days of life were spent with his sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Robert will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Mission Road Bible Church, 7820 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
