Robert Swearingen, 89, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014. Robert was born May 6, 1925 in Cameron, MO. Bob graduated from Plattsburg High School in 1943. Soon after he joined the Air Force and served from 1943-1946. While in the service he met the love of his life, Ruth Mielenz. They married on April 20, 1947 and had 67 wonderful years together. Bob was a family man and loved each one dearly. Bob loved Golf and played every day after his retirement in 1990. Bob worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 10 years and as an electrician for General Motors for 30 years. Bob was also a Charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Independence, MO where he spent many hours helping to build the church. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth, two sons, Stephen (Connie) and David, two grandchildren, Courtney (Evan) Polly and Jacob Swearingen, three great-grandchildren, Owen and Emma Polly and Colin Swearingen, and cousin, Kenny (Billie) Swearingen. He will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 3601 S. Sterling Ave, Independence, MO 64052. The visitation will be Friday, September 12, 2014 from 11 am until service time at 12 pm at the Church.
