Robert E. Flynn Sr.

Robert E. Flynn of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away November 17, 2019, at age 89 of natural causes. Bob was born November 19, 1929 to Clyde and Anna (McFadden) Flynn in Kansas City, MO. He married Elaine (Kongs) on April 23, 1955. Bob and Elaine lived in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister. He is survived by son Robert Flynn Jr. (Carole) of Pleasant Hill, MO, daughter Carole Young(Rob) of Overland Park, KS, four grandchildren, Michelle Flynn, Brian Flynn (Melissa), Jackson Young, Logan Young, and four great grandchildren, Lucas Straasburg, Shane Brownfield, Alexander Straasburg, and Allen Bearce.

Bob served in the Army as a radio technician. This experience would be the start of his career as an electrician. Bob was a proud member of local union IBEW 124 for over 60 years. For ten years he was one of the electricians who worked on the Kansas City Mayor’s Christmas tree making sure all the lights were twinkling for the season.

Bob and Elaine had a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks for almost 20 years where they spent many enjoyable weekends with family and friends and where you could find them a great deal of the time after they retired. It was there that Bob enjoyed one of his favorite pastimes, fishing.

Bob was an avid sports fan and watched many, many hours of football, baseball, golf, bowling, just about any sport. He was an enthusiastic fan of both the KC Chiefs and KC Royals. He was a lifetime bowler and had time to be on three different leagues after he retired. Bob also enjoyed playing the occasional round of golf.

Bob and Elaine spent several winters in Padre Island, Texas to escape the cold and snow. Bob got to try his hand at deep sea fishing while in Texas and they enjoyed a lot of fresh seafood and the warm temperatures.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 MO-150, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Visitation will be held at 10:00 preceding the mass.
