Robert Joseph Boehm, known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, at the age of 74. Born in Leeds, Bob spent the majority of his life in Kansas City, MO.
Bob was a dedicated family man and a hard worker. After graduating from De La Salle High School, he spent much of his career working in the family greenhouse business, cultivating plants and vegetables - his favorite being poinsettias. After the business was sold, he transitioned to the role of head grower at Farrand Farms, where he remained until his retirement. His passion for his work was evident, and his knowledge of gardening touched the lives of many who knew him.
Beyond his career, Bob was a devoted sports fan, with a heart that beat for Kansas City. He cheered on the Chiefs, Royals, MU Tigers, MSU Bears, Monarchs, Mavericks, and most recently the KC Current, never missing a game if he could help it. His love for his teams was infectious, and his enthusiasm was unmatched. Whether watching at home, at a stadium, or sharing his excitement with family and friends, Bob’s spirit had #1 fan (or critic) energy.
In his later years, Bob found comfort in simple pleasures. He could often be found with his Kindle in hand, enjoying a good book, while smooth jazz or today’s country hits filled the air from his television. He kept his birdfeeders full, freezer full of ice cream, and never passed up the opportunity to enjoy a hoppy IPA or shot of Patron. His ornery, stoic yet joyful presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Bob’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and his unwavering passion for life. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love for family, and unshakeable loyalty to his hometown teams.
A celebration of life will be held at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home. Details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kansas City Community Gardens and Literacy KC in honor of Bob’s love of plants and reading.
