Richard Charles Christian Fuchs “Dick” age 98 died on December 27, 2021, at Colonial Oaks in Leawood. He was born August 8, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, to Robert C. and Anna M. Fuchs. Richard attended John Adams High School in Ozone Park, New York and graduated with many honors. Richard enlisted in the Service and became a Navy Pilot. He was then encouraged to join the boxing team where he was proud to say he won all 23 fights, 19 by knock out! He said boxing gave him the confidence that he could survive in other tough situations, which arrived soon enough as he flew PBM-5 Patrol bombers in the South Pacific until the war ended in 1945. He flew in to Wake Island as part of the Japanese surrender. He then entered the insurance business with the Royal-Liverpool Group in New York as a trainee, and was transferred to Kansas City in February 1947. In December of 1951 Dick joined Gene Strauss and eventually formed a national Insurance agency called Strauss Fuchs Oppenheimer, Inc. Dick was also the President of the Kansas City Insurance Agents Association.
Richard met Marilyn Joan Tipton “Tippy” at the Ad Club in downtown Kansas City, and they married on October 17, 1953 at Visitation Church in KC. They both wanted a large family and their wish came true with six children. Tippy and Dick were avid travelers exploring China, Antarctica, Alaska, New Zealand, Africa, Europe, and all points in between. They loved Salt Spring Island, British Columbia so much that they decided to build a home where they spent 18 summers, and had lots of family and friends visit. Dick was a larger than life personality that always had a smile and never met a stranger. He was extremely charitable, always trying to help out those in need, along with being an avid gardener, and an animal lover who was passionate about his bird watching and feeding. He was devoted to his wife of 56 years and he loved his large family.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy and Ann, brother Robert, wife Marilyn Fuchs, sons Christopher and Robert Fuchs. He is survived and held in loving memory by son Richard II (Gail), daughters Kim Fuchs Madsen (Kristian), Courtney Fuchs (Bob), Lise Strobel (Kirk) and Daughter in law Sophie Fuchs, Grandchildren Richard III, Cody (Brittany), Haley, Adam (Angelina), Jacob, Nikki, Emmy (Colby), Kevin (April), Abby (Gene) and Great Grandchildren Samantha (Devin), Jake, Sara, Jessica, Easton, Elliott and Great Great Grandchild Beckett.
