Patricia Jean (Brown) Robertson of Leawood, Kansas, has gone on to glory and ascended to the alto section of the heavenly choir on Monday, May 20, 2024. She was met at the gate by her beloved husband, the Reverend, Doctor, Lt. Colonel Ed Robertson, her parents, the Reverend Roy and Lorene Follis Brown, and her brothers and beloved sister-in law, Gerald, Buddy, Bob and Suzanne Duke Brown. Born in West Plains, Missouri, on March 22, 1927, she was the daughter of a Methodist Minister and church organist. The family moved all around the Midwest living in Little Rock, Smackover, St. Louis, Appleton City and many more places.
Patricia graduated from Beaumont High School in St. Louis and Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri. While in Fayette, she was invited to her favorite professor, Dr. Pat Patterson’s house for dinner and was introduced to her future husband, professor Pat’s wife’s brother, and it was love at first sight. They corresponded for six months, only had two chaperoned dates, and were married over 64 years.
Pat and Ed moved to North Carolina where they both taught at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Pat earned her master’s degree in biology and physical education where she also coached women’s basketball. While in Chapel Hill, the Honorable Edward D. “Chip” Robertson, Jr. and Melanie Jean Robertson Christopher were born. After being transferred to England with the United States Air Force, Melissa Leigh Robertson Klaus was born. The family was transferred again to Charleston, South Carolina where Libby Robertson Bergman was born.
After retiring from the USAF, the family moved to Kansas City where Ed started seminary and pastored St. Luke’s and Christ United Methodist Church. Pat was the great welcomer and was dedicated to making sure everyone felt included and loved at the church. Her door was always open and their home was a beehive of activity. Pat had a special place in her heart for children, especially latchkey children and those that were hungry. Out of love and concern for these children she started a daycare facility at the church to help care for and nurture them. Pat also managed the summer fun program at Raytown Parks and Recreation. In addition, Pat taught biology and health at Smith Hale Jr.High and Hickman Mills High School. She enjoyed being the tennis and golf coach while at Hickman Mills High School.
Pat had a servant’s heart. She continued to serve as a Nomad, traveling the country in an RV and doing mission and ministry work wherever they were needed. Her last international mission trip was to Malawi when she was 80 years old. She continued to do mission and ministry work for the rest of her life.
An active member of the choir for over 79 years. She was blessed and cursed by perfect pitch. She was a proud and active member of the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS where she filled many roles, including volunteering as a Greeter, helping with Blood drives, singing in the Women’s Ensemble and other choral groups, reading tutor, Morning Star Sunday School Class, and the weekly “Bagel Brigade” which helps people in need. She was an active member of PEO and The Wall-Streeters Investment Group. She loved her Steeplechase neighbors in particular the adopted Finlayson family, the Comforts, and Darlin.
Pat leaves behind four children trained for service, Chip (Renee) Robertson of Leawood, Kansas Melanie Christopher (Clif) of Maumelle, Arkansas, Melissa (Bob) Klaus of San Antonio, Texas, and Libby (Brad) Bergman of Overland Park, Kansas. She was a beloved Grammy to her 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren grandchildren, Kip (Jennifer) ((Edward, Christopher and Hadley), Matt and Ali Henley Robertson, Meredith and Seth Koschak (Kennedy, Roberts, and Libby)), Drew Scoggins (Kelly) ((Kit, Sammy and Teddy)),Tricia Overdyke (Trey)((Maggie,Evie)) Leigh Klaus Swartz (Brock) Alyssa Klaus (Logan) Shaw ((Lily and Sydney)), Abbey Klaus (Graham) Noelle ((Sophie and Piper)), Alex Bergman, Katie Bergman Petrosky (Phil) ((Annabelle and Daniel)), Will (Sarah) ((Liam)) Bergman, and James Bergman. Sister-in-law Ruth Swenson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A service will be held in Pat’s honor on Friday, May 24th at 11:00am in the Wesley Chapel at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS 66224. A reception will immediately follow in the Student Center.
