Norbert was born on July 22, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the third of four children of Theodore and Helen (Zielinski) Boinski. He married his life-long love, Catherine nee Lonergan on October 10, 1953.
He grew up in Chicago, IL and attended Tilden High. While there, he worked at the University of Chicago and participated as an assistant in the Manhattan Project. Upon entering the US Army, he was part of an elite program at St. Louis University to earn a 4 year Engineering degree in 9 months while becoming an officer. He tested through the program, which was suddenly abolished following the 8th month and entered boot camp as a private. He rose to the rank of Sergeant while serving valiantly in the European Theater and earning 3 Bronze Stars as well as a Purple Heart in the Saar Basin in Germany in April of 1945.
After the service, he worked for the United States Army Signal Corps and in 1951 transferred to Kansas City to head the office there. In 1956, he began working as an electrical engineer on sensitive programs like guidance systems for Bendix, later Allied Signal and Honeywell. He worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and an active member of Christ The King parish. He enjoyed participating in bowling and golf leagues both through the Knights and with friends and co-workers.
Norbert was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Catherine, his parents, Theodore and Helen, and his three siblings, Florence, Theodore Jr. and Ronald. He is survived by his three children, Catherine (Patrick) McCullar, Robert M. (Mike) (Alice) Boinski and Stephen (KiKi) Boinski, 7 grandchildren, John (Cassie), Erin Delaney (Steven) and Bryan (Amanda) McCullar, and Matthew, Kellie Beverly (Steven), Allison and Ashley Boinski, and 5 great grandchildren, Mia, Keira, Kylee, Sean and Randi.
Norbert was a wonderful husband and father who always lead by example, and who guided but never ordered or controlled. A true patriarch of the family who is and will always be deeply loved and missed, and who has earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
