Nile Wayne York, 91, died peacefully on March 3, 2024, after a brief illness. Nile was born on July 21, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri as the oldest son of Wilbur T. and Nellie Margaret Hanson York. Nile was a 1950 graduate of Shawnee Mission High School (now Shawnee Mission North). Shortly after graduating, Nile joined the Air Force and served as a Communications Specialist at Ruislip Air Force Base in England during the Korean War. Upon returning to the Kansas City area, Nile attended the University of Kansas but was soon drawn to law enforcement as a career. Nile was a trooper in the Missouri Highway Patrol, Troop A, for over eight years. Nile took his investigative and puzzle-solving skills to State Farm Insurance, where he retired as a Senior Claims Adjuster in 1995, after 27 years of service.
Nile enjoyed a long and eventful retirement with his wife of nearly 40 years, Darlene Parton York. This blended family welcomed several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and the couple was actively involved in all the children’s activities. Nile and Darlene enjoyed spending time with their family and friends, traveling and occasionally trying their luck at the casinos. Nile particularly liked visiting family in Oregon, taking over 50 trips to that coast. Nile was a kind and affable gentleman who could have a conversation with anyone.
Nile is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur T. and Nellie Hanson York, a sister, Doris Elaine York Branson, and several aunts and uncles.
Nile Wayne York is survived by his wife, Darlene Parton York; sons Steven L. York (Lisa) and Alan York (Paula); stepson, Hans (Michelle) Beebe; and stepdaughter, Theresa Schreckler; grandchildren David (Julia) York, John York and Kaitlyn York; step-grandchildren Dillon Schreckler, Daphne Beebe, Karson Beebe, and Samantha Beebe; two great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.
Nile is also survived by three brothers and their families, Ronald (Bonnie) York, Pat York and Ted (Patrice) York. This includes several nieces and nephews, and grandnephews and grandnieces. Nile is also survived by his sister’s son, Heath (Debbie) Gregg, who frequently visited and helped him in recent years.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and nurses for their help and kindness during Niles’ final weeks.
Per the decedent’s wishes there will be cremation. A celebration of Nile’s life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in the Fellowship Hall of Faubion United Methodist Church, 7113 N. Troost Avenue, Gladstone, Missouri, 64118.
The family requests no flowers.
