May 6, 1952 to December 25, 2017
Nels Lindgren, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 25 at age 65. Nels, of Leawood, Kansas, leaves behind the love of his life, wife of 41 years, Patty Duffy Lindgren, son Corey (Mandy), daughter, Shannon, two sisters, Karen Frey and Linnea Doors, and countless friends.
Transplanted from Jamesburg, New Jersey by way of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Nels and Patty made Kansas City their home in 1976. Nels had an accomplished career in the golf industry, serving as superintendent of Liberty Hills, Blue River, Minor Park, and as the original superintendent of Loch Lloyd Country Club, where he ran the course for 18 years. Nels was active in the Heart of America Golf Course Superintendents Association, and was named Superintendent of the Year in 1988 and received the Chester Mendenhall Award in 2000.
Nels loved the many friends in his wide circle and made everyone welcome in his home. He and Patty loved traveling, but their fondest memories are at the family cabin in Bay, Missouri. His memory will forever live on in the golf courses he cared for, the pinewood derby cars he shaped, the tree houses he built, the barn he reconstructed, the bluebirds he protected, the Christmas poems he wrote, the children he raised and the love he shared with all his family and friends.
