Michael Glenn Smith

Michael was born August 21st, 1956 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He moved to Kansas City, MO as a child. He graduated from Hickman Mills High School in 1974.

Michael’s hobbies included working with his God given hands using tools to dismantle automobiles and enjoying putting them back together better than before. He was a man of principle and integrity and lived his life by the golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Matthew 7:12. He loved family gatherings for Christmas, family reunions, birthday parties, and anniversary parties. Michael’s nieces and nephews always enjoyed spending time with him. He had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh.

As a child Michael attended Morning Star Baptist Church of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and later attended Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri. Michael was employed for 20 plus years at Swope Ridge Nursing Home where he still remained involved with the staff and seniors until his passing. At the time of his death Michael was an employee of the Kansas City Water Pollution Department where he worked for many years.

He is survived by his lifelong companion Patricia Whitebear, Kansas City, MO, two sons Michael Glenn Smith-Bowen, (Rebecca) and Steven Wayne Bowen, Wichita, KS, three grandchildren Antrell D’Michael Smith-Bowen, Adoreyanna Superior-Lynn Smith-Bowen and Kennedy Louise Smith-Bowen of Ft. Worth Texas, seven brothers and sisters, Jeanetta Smith Waldrup, Lee’s Summit, MO, JoAnn Smith Willingham of San Bernandino, CA, Joyce M. Smith Grayson, Kansas City, MO, Theresa Smith Stuart of Pine Bluff, AR, Donzell Smith of Kansas City, MO, Anthony Clifton of Kansas City, MO, and LaCurtise Smith of Kansas City, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evangelist Lucille Clark Smith, whom he loved dearly.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer, & Freeman Funeral Home at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131 on Saturday, March 4th, at 3:00 p.m.
