Mary was the youngest of four daughters born to Alfred M. and Bessie M. Howe. She was married to Harold A. Schlomann for 68 years. She was preceded in death by Harold; her son, Harold “Hal”; her parents; her sisters, Ella Mae Stone, Sally S. Vernon and Anne Clary; as well as her nieces and nephews, John M. Stone and Francis “Pinky” Stone, Catherine “Kit” Eller and Sally Ann Goldblatt, Max Schlomann and Alan Schlomann.
Mary is survived by her children, Margaret Harvison, John Schlomann and his wife Rosalind, Ann Schlomann, and Christine Schlomann; daughter-in-law Gretchen Schlomann; together with her granddaughters, Sarah Schlomann, Sara Enochs and her husband Weston, and Hannah Schlomann; great grandson, Brandt Enochs; nieces and nephews, Janet Erdman and husband Darold of Alma, MO, Barbara Schlomann of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Frank Vernon and his wife June of Cupertino, CA.
Mary was very active and involved throughout her life. She worked as a bookkeeper until age 85. She was recognized as an accomplished “senior” worker by the Governor of Missouri in 2017. She was a long-time member of American Business Women’s Association (Spring Bonnets Chapter). She very much enjoyed attending “silver sneakers” exercise classes into her 101st year of her life as well as attending art classes. She enjoyed long drives through the country to buy apples, peaches and watermelons as well as to just enjoy the scenery. She thrived at gatherings of family and friends; including a fun filled 102nd birthday party. She loved animals, particularly her little dachshunds.
A celebration of life will be held November 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott, 1500 NE Coronado Drive, Blue Springs, MO 64014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Great Plains SPCA animal shelter in Merriam, KS (greatplainsspca.org) or to a local animal shelter of your choice.
