Martin Chavez, Jr., 68, Gladstone, MO, passed January 6, 2018. Visitation is 1-2 PM Friday, January 12th, family sharing at 2:00 PM at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. Contributions to NorthCare Hospice or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Because of his passion for the Kansas City Royals and the sport of golfing, Martin’s family encourages the wearing of sports attire to the service.
Martin was born April 30, 1949 to Martin M. and Ruth (Lopez) Chavez in Kansas City, MO. He worked in Gladstone area grocery stores for more than 30 years and later retired from Bargain Barn Furniture. After retirement he enjoyed working part-time for Thoroughbred Ford.
Martin is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter, Melissa Strodtman and husband, Rusty; son, Mark Chavez and wife, Jessica; 5 grandchildren, Tanner Strodtman, Noah Strodtman, McKenna Strodtman, Alexis Chavez and Lauren Chavez; his mother, Ruth Chavez; siblings, Mike Chavez, Ruben Chavez, Paul Chavez, Annie Baker and husband, Dave, Becky Perkins and husband, Bob, Abbie Crowder and husband, Tom, and Ed Chavez and wife, Jill; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his father Martin Chavez; and sister, Mary Colaw.
