She was born Marilyn Lea Briggs on March 12, 1932, in Collyer, Kansas. She graduated from WaKeeney High School and then moved to Kansas City to attended Business College. She worked in Insurance until she started a family. After raising her children, she started working for the Raytown School District as a cook until she retired. This job had many benefits for family and friends, as we loved when she would bring home the extra cinnamon rolls.
She enjoyed spending the winter months in the warmth of Mission, Texas for 17 years. She enjoyed the adventures of going to Mexico and the deals she could get. She always came back home eager to teach us the new games she had learned from friends. She loved playing cards, especially her weekly game of Bridge. She passed her love of cards and playing games down to her granddaughter.
If Marilyn wasn't home, we knew we could find her shopping for jewelry or hanging out at McDonald’s. She made many friends going to McDonald’s every day for over 40 years, sometimes multiple times a day. She was always cheering on her kids and grandkids in sports from little league to high school. She could be very vocal, especially in soccer. We can still hear her yelling "Kick It!!".
She married David Johnson on August 2, 1952. They had two children, Sheryl Jones and David Johnson Jr. In her life she earned the titles of Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, and she cherished them all. Family was very important to her, and she loved going on vacations to visit extended family.
She is survived by daughter Sheryl Jones, son David Johnson Jr, granddaughter Nicole Parker (Seth), great granddaughters Allison and Haley Parker and lots of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.
