Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Manuel and her brother Julio Cortez Jr.
Lorraine was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 29, 1929, but was raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico. In 1953 she moved to Kansas City, Missouri, met and married Manuel Gutierrez (She was the love of his life).
Lorraine always wanted to travel and was afforded the opportunity when she married Manuel. Manuel was in the Navy for 28 years and was transferred overseas to various locations including Japan and Guam.
In 1972 Lorraine, Manuel and family settled in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at KU Medical Center as a Nurse’s Aide and was often called upon as an interpreter. Manuel and Lorraine eventually retired in Leawood, Kansas.
Lorraine was a breast cancer survivor and throughout her life demonstrated great strength and courage. We will always be grateful for her bravery and unconditional love.
Her pride and joy above all were her family. She will be greatly missed by her children, and their spouses, Sonia and Wally Wong, Manuel and Sharol Gutierrez, Ruth and Jeff Colyer, and David Gutierrez; ten grandchildren; Kristina, Laurie, Amanda, Vincent, Stephan, Alexandra, Serena, Domino, Michael and Marcus.
Lorraine will also be missed by her nine great- grandchildren; Luciana, Vivienne, Aurelia, Declan, Evelyn, Brendan, Leighton, Leia, and Lianna. All her cherished loved ones will continue to honor her legacy by living their life to the fullest.
The Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Parish at 14251 Nall Avenue, Leawood Kansas on November 23rd at 10:00 am. Inurnment will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri at 11:30 am. A Celebration of Life will be held afterward at the Clubhouse at The Villas of Leawood at 2021 West 139th Terrace, Leawood, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or American Breast Cancer Foundation.
