Larry Joe Newell

Larry Joe Newell, bka Larry Love or LL began this life on December 23, 1954 in Bowdon, Georgia, with Clyde and LaVoyne Newell. His early education was at Hudson Elementary School, and then he attended Bowdon High School before transferring to Kansas City, Missouri to complete High School. Larry joined the Army and completed his basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. He served 1 tour of service in Germany. After leaving the Military Life Larry made Kansas City, Missouri home. You would always hear him sing 'I’m going to Kansas City, Kansas City Here I come I’m going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come. They got some crazy little women there and I’m gonna get me one’ (Muddy Waters). He definitely loved the women and they loved him too. Sometimes you would hear someone call him "Casanova". He lived here for over 45 years.

Larry worked for the Yellow Cab Company for several years. Many people would call the line and request for him specifically. Driving his clients all over the city was a great joy to him. Once his health started to fail, he had to retire. That did not stop him from living. Larry truly loved music. At any given time, you may see him walking with his boom box on his shoulder grooving to some old school music. He could tell you the name of the song and the artist of many different artists. You knew Larry was happy and feeling good when he would start singing. That was his ultimate favorite pastime next to being a jokester. He loved to laugh and clown every chance he got. A comedian for sure. LL was a kind and loving person that knew what friendship meant. You could count on Larry. He loved to help others. He would give the shirt off his back and all the money in his pocket. He always thought of others first.

Larry was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan. When they won the Super Bowl, he wore his favorite Chiefs gear for a week. His favorite words were “How ‘bout them Chiefs?” Clothes, shoes, and cowboy boots were his weaknesses. He loved to get clean and put on something sporty.

Larry accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope United Methodist Church of Bowdon, Georgia. He knew how important it was to have a personal relationship with God.

Larry was preceded in death by his Father, Clyde Newell; Biological Father, Joe L. Shockley; Brothers, Tommy Newell and Jim Wallace; Sister, Barbara Newell; Son, Larry Davis; Daughter, Shawn Taylor; Grandparents, Walter and Bessie O’Hara and Fred and Addie Lee Newell; A Special Aunt, Josie Brown.

On November 3, 2021, God touched Larry and called him home. At that moment, Larry was at total peace.

He leaves to cherish loving memories are his Son Marcus (Deisi) Chappell, Wedowee, Alabama; Daughter Shalaya Mack, East Hartford, Connecticut; Mother LaVoyne Newell, Bowdon, Georgia; 7 grandchildren Ambreka Chappell, Troy, Alabama, Shareka Chappell, Roanoke, Alabama, DeMarcus Chappell, Tristan Chappell, Zoe Chappell, all of Wedowee, Alabama, Kamorah Brown and Kyrie Brown East Hartford, Connecticut; 2 great-grandchildren, Makhi Lyons and Ellora Ricks Roanoke, Alabama; Sisters LaDonna (David) Fryar and Patsy Jones, Carrollton, Georgia; Brothers, Lindsey Newell, Bremen, Georgia and Ricky Shockley, Chicago, Illinois; Nieces and Nephews , Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and Friends.

LL will be missed by so many. He touched many lives. God has given him a new life.

Celebration of Life for Larry will be Saturday December 18, 2021 at Brush Creek Community Center KCMO 2-4 pm.
