Kathleen M. “Kathy” Roberts, 73, of Kansas City, MO passed away July 6, 2024. A time of visiting will begin at 8:30am with Rosary recitation at 9am and Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 9:30am on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Christ the King, 8510 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64114. Kathy's committal service will immediately follow in Forest Hill Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO. After the burial, a luncheon will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall (Council 4387), 5111 E. 112th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64137. Doors will open at 9:30am.
Kathy was born February 13, 1951 in Kansas City, KS to Ceferino and Manuela “Nellie” (Fuentes) Lozano. She graduated from St. Mary’s in Leavenworth with a degree in Education. She taught 6 years in the Catholic Elementary School System in Atchison, KS, 1973-1979; Vietnamese high school students from 1976-1977, the start of her ESL career; and taught 1 year at Christ the King Grade School - Kansas, 1978.
Kathy taught for a few years in head start as well. Last year she took over administrative duties. After time in administration, her desire to be in the classroom became more robust. She continued working in the classroom, teaching students to become more successful in school and life. Many stories exist where parents were appreciative of the results of their children. She taught 24 years in the KCMO School District, First through Fifth Grade at different times with the last 10 years being Fourth and Fifth Grade ESL split.
Kathy was a member of the Dominic Catholic Single Group in Topeka and Kansas City. She made a tremendous number of lifelong friends. The most important person was the love of her life, which she met when he showed up to play ball at St. Ann’s. Kathy and Steve began a friendship, which built into an everlasting love.
Kathy enjoyed making specialty cakes for birthdays and holidays for special family and friends.
At various times, she had been a member of the Daughters of Isabella by also being a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus 4387. She was also a member of AFT.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Antonia Lozano; uncles, Raymond Fuentes and Frank Olvera; and aunts, Rita Puga and Delores Fuentes.
She is survived by her husband, Steven of the home; her brother, Stephen L. Lozano, Sr.; her God Brother, Dr. Larry Howlett; niece, Elizabeth Rynerson (Scott); nephew, Stephen J. Lozano, Jr.; two great nieces, Meka and Ava Cruz Rynerson. She also leaves behind her uncles, Benito, Anthony, Jesse and Vincente Fuentes as well as many cousins and dear friends.
