June Marie Pettit Turley, 88, passed away October 6, 2017, in Kansas City, MO. She was born January 7, 1929, in Washington, PA, to Walter H. and Helen E. (Nesbitt) Pettit. Following graduation, she worked for TWA in NYC and then in Kansas City, where she met her husband, John J. Turley. June was a member of Country Club Christian Church where she sang in the Chancel Choir and attended the Tri-C’s Sunday School class. She was also a member of the MOA Auxiliary and AOA Auxiliary. June had a passion for music, whether that meant listening to the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts at full volume with the windows open on Saturdays, attending performances at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, playing the piano or singing in the church choir. June, along with her husband of more than 60 years, John, loved her family and her Waldo community. She will be remembered for her kind spirit and generosity, including the multitude of cookies she baked and shared during the Christmas holidays. June is immediately survived by her four children: Steven J. Turley, John W. Turley (Jackie McDonald), Karen M. Parker (Harry), and Howard J. Turley (Laura); her grandchildren: Andrew (Heidi), Jeremy, Brendan (Katherine), Matthew (Alexandra), Clayton, Kelsey, Claire, Roy, Samantha, Mallory, Dennis, Christian, and Sydney; and her great-grandchildren: Olive, Arthur, and Audrey; as well as her sisters and their families: Doris Pettit Sorice and Nancy Pettit Turek. ! A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM, Friday, October 13, 2017, at Country Club Christian Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that Memorial Contributions be made to the Country Club Christian Church Music Fund or Harvesters.
