I was very fortunate, in the early days of my employ by the KCPD, to work with and be influenced by some great police officers. One of them was Joe Pilsl.  Joe was one of my mentors at Central Patrol, and from him I observed a good street cop at work. Some of the most hair-raising Calls-for-Service I ever made were made in the company of Joe Pilsl. And more than once, I was very glad Joe was around. And now he isn’t. Yes, Joe will be sorely missed by many people. I’m saddened that the new millennial police officers in KCMO will never have the opportunity to know good cops like Joe. He could have taught each of them a lot.

Sherry, your loss has given me pause to realize how much time has passed since my KC days when i felt I actually knew you and Joe.   Although  i haven’t seen you guys in ages, i remember you both as quality people that should be looked up to.  Happy to have known you both.  Blessing to you and your family

I am so sorry for your loss.  I had not seen Joe for many years before seeing him at the ST B's reunion. I did not know he became a officer of the law. Funny, because that is what I always wanted to do, but was ahead of my time as women were not yet accepted when I was old enough. Joe and I had a volatile relationship during grade school at St Bernadette's, he and I got into trouble several times for fighting and were made to stand in the hall, till Sister Luca scolded us and made us apologize to each other. He and I always ribbed each other, both being a bit of rule breakers at the time.  We must have got it out of our systems, he being an officer and me going into security work with ADT. Rest in Peace Joe, my old friend.  My prayers are with you Sherry and Sons. (I met you once Sherry, at your home, when you had the 1965 St B class over after the St B reunion just before it closed, Joe was in a wheel chair at the time, but laughing and having a great time entertaining all of us, such was his way.) 

When I was thinking about joining the church and signed up for RCIA, over 10 years ago now, Joe was asked to be my sponsor. We had our arguments and laughs and became friends as I became Catholic. We have been friends since that time.

I will hold you in my thoughts and prayers , Sherry. I'm very sorry  to hear of Joe's passing. 
I do not drive anymore at night, so will not be able to attend this evening or tomorrow. 

I sure liked working with Joe.  Heck I don't think anyone would say otherwise.  He was always quick with a joke or a remark that would make you chuckle.   A quick wit for sure and I sure enjoyed it.    Heaven is certainly enlightened with his arrival !! 

I so enjoyed working with Joe in the DARE Unit as he never failed to make me laugh daily!! He was so loved by his DARE students as well. Sherry  & sons, I am so sorry for your loss as I know how much you'll miss Joe as he was taken too soon. Love , hugs and prayers during this sad time.

Affectionately known as "Joe Pistol" I could never figured out exactly his "caliber", but he definitely was one of a kind. We were assigned together the day he was devastated by news of his 42 yr old mother's sudden death. It formed a bond and remained a memory rediscussed over the years.  His infectious smile, sense of humor, and generous spirit  defines his humanity. God Bless you brother!

I was a young PO at EPD when I was a rookie. Joe was a TAC officer at EPD. Joe kind of took me under his wing and checked up on me from time to time. At times he would tell me I was stupid for doing what I did but always told me how to do it right the next time. Other times he would find out what I was doing and just grunt in a favorable manner and walk away.
I always wanted to be like Joe and when I made Sgt I understood his strange behavior. RIP JOE!! THANKS

Went to St. Bernadette's with Joe, he was in 8th and I was in 5th grade when I left.  Later ended up working with him at the Police Department.  Rest in piece brother Knight and P.O.   God bless you and your family.
