Joseph “Joe” Ojeda, Jr., age 76, passed away at his longtime home with his wife and family close by his side on February 3, 2022. Joe was born on January 14, 1946 with his twin, Johnny Ojeda, in Omaha, Nebraska to his parents, Joseph and Juanita (Contreras) Ojeda Sr. One year later, his parents & his 6 siblings packed up and moved to Kansas City.
As a young boy, Joe would attend the West Side Center making lifetime friends and unforgettable memories going fishing, camping, playing football and baseball. In 1958, Joe attended West Junior High School and there he met his precious love, Stella Vita Gonzales. On July 5, 1963, Joe and Stella (Peanut) were married and they built a beautiful life together celebrating 57 years married.
Joe and “Peanut” became parents to their beloved daughter, Lisa Ojeda Moreno, in 1964. Joe was a dedicated husband who worked hard for his family at Armco Steel (GST) for 32 years. He continued to work at Allied Services until 2009.
Throughout those years, their family grew as they had three more beautiful daughters, Michelle Ann Ojeda, Joey Renee Ojeda-Molina (Juan), Jaclyn Suzanne Ojeda-Gonzales (John).
Joe’s daughters were one of his greatest gifts to life. There were many things Joe’s Westside neighborhood, family, and friends knew of him; his love for good music, his appreciation for nice looking cars and taking care of them, for having a beautiful flower garden, for being seen jogging from the WS to the Plaza and back, & for taking pride in his luscious hair.
Joe’s bloodline will continue to grow becoming one of his most valuable blessings, with 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Monique Alvarado-Arellano (Andrew), Ashlee Ojeda, Emilio Ojeda-Molina, Marissa Moreno, Joseph Moreno IV (Jessie), Juan Carlos Ojeda-Molina, Noel Gonzales, Mario Guerra III, Maria Gonzales, John David Gonzales Jr., Manuel Guerra, & Julian Guerra; great-grandchildren, Andres Arellano, Lorenzo Molina, & Angelo Arellano. Each were loved dearly by their “Pops”.
Joe appreciated traveling throughout the years together with his wife seeing the ocean in Hawaii and capturing all the memories. One of his biggest blessings was to travel with all of his family to Miramar Beach Florida in 2018.
Joe blessed his family with some of the greatest gifts; raising them up in a house full of music & love. Music & family gave him life! Joe welcomed all into his home & never met a stranger. His easy-going personality and unique sense of humor will be tremendously missed.
He was reunited with his beloved daughter, Lisa Ojeda-Moreno; his parents, Joseph & Juanita Ojeda; his sisters, Porfiria Sandoval & Patricia Ojeda; brothers, Johnny Ojeda, Augustine “Gus” Ojeda and Ralph “Terry” Ojeda.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. and Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Friday February 11th, 2022 at McGilley Midtown Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.
Special thanks to all our family, friends, & West Side Community for all the love & support you have given to our family during this hard time. Pops, your legacy will continue to live on through our lives & each time we play your music! You fought through so many health difficulties & although it hurts us to see you go, enjoy the ride with your Lord and Savior & be reunited with all your loved ones until we see you again.
