Joe's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his country, family and friends. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971 as a Sergeant. He completed three tours in Vietnam, where he was highly decorated and demonstrated extraordinary bravery and commitment.
After his military service, Joseph embarked on a distinguished career as a heavy equipment operator. His expertise and work ethic led him to employment with Superior Bowen Asphalt and O'Donnell & Son's Construction Company. In 2023, Joe was honored as a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers Local 101 Union, celebrating 45 years of membership. He retired in 2008 following his second heart attack, having left a lasting legacy in the construction industry.
Joe took great pride in his daughters: Kelly Lara (Tomas) and their son, Josh; Brianna Martin (Kyle) and their children, Nicolas, Annabel and Violet.
He was also known for his love of rock music, NASCAR, Mizzou Football and the Kansas City Chiefs. Joe loved the Bayou and wished he could have visited more often. Joe was a lover of animals, especially his dog Janis, and cats Snowball, Snoopy, and Booms. Joe was the life of the party.
Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His strength, humor, and love will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A memorial service will be on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the McGilley State Line Chapel in Kansas City, Missouri. The visitation will commence at 5 pm, followed by a brief Memorial Service with Military Honors at 6:30 pm. Following the Memorial Service, everyone is invited to join us at BB's Lawnside BBQ for BBq and Blues. On Friday, May 24, 2024, we will gather for a burial service at Leavenworth National Cemetery, a fitting tribute to Joe's service and dedication. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a veterans' charity of your choice.
