Joseph Richard Guerra, Sr. age 81, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024. Visitation is on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Catholic Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 901 Avenida Cesar E Chavez, Kansas City, MO 64108. Please join his family after the service to share memories of Richard, along with a meal and refreshments, at the Guadalupe Shrine basement.
Richard was born to Evangelina (Angie) and Feliciano (Chano) Guerra on September 27, 1942. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Vivian (Vivi) Guerra Ruis. He attended De La Salle in Kansas City, Missouri, and after working for many years spent his retirement with his family and walking his three Shih Tzus, Puffington Stewart, Sammy, and Gigi.
Richard was very much a people person, he loved visiting and talking with anyone he met. He was married for 58 years to Victoria (Vicki) Garcia Guerra, and they were together almost 60 years. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend too so many. His family was the center of his world.
Richard's passion was to socialize, dance, enjoy music especially his oldies, and his TV. He was fourth in a family of eleven, with one older brother and nine sisters. He was born and lived most of his life in the Westside neighborhood before moving to the northland of Kansas City. He was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Holy Name of Jesus Parish for many years, he spent every day praying the rosary.
Richard is survived by his wife Vicki, and children, Andrea, Joe, Bobby, Victoria E (Jesse Manzanares), and Mary. Added special daughter, Carmen Aguilar (Carlos Lopez), Antonio Salgado, Sr., Grandchildren Mia Santora (Felix Maldonado), Lilly Aguilar, Maseo Salgado, and Cruz Salgado all of Kansas City, Mo. Granddaughter Jacqlyn Muro, her children, Bella and Daniel Muro of Roeland Park, Kansas. Mario and Daniel Dominguez, of Kansas City, Kansas. And by his beloved Shih Tzu, Gigi.
Richard is also survived by his eight siblings: Chano, Marie (Loli), Evangeline (Angie), Maria, Lorraine, Patricia, Victoria (Vickie), Elizabeth (Liz), and Consuelo (Connie). The extended family includes cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. Family will greatly miss him.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine at 901 Avenida Cesar E Chavez, Kansas City, MO 64108.
The Guerra family would like to thank family and friends for all the prayers, calls, and texts messages that have been sent. It has helped so much during this time. The family would also like to thank the caregivers, St. Luke's North Hospital-Barry Road hospital staff, and the doctors for their efforts, care, and dedication shown to Richard.
