Cyril John Slatinsky, 89, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2016, in the presence of his family after complications following heart surgery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at McGilley State Line Chapel. His Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25 at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St., Leawood, KS 66209. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. John was born January 15, 1927, in Sedalia, Mo., the son of Vincent and Clara Slatinsky. Part of a deeply close-knit family, John is proceeded in death by his parents and brothers Ernest and Robert Slatinsky. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Helen Slatinsky; his sister Rita Slatinsky (Sister Clara Vincent); his four adored children, Kathy Rainen (Mike), Rita Marvine (Gary), Janis Kellerman (Steve) and John Vincent Slatinsky; his eight grandchildren, Kelly Geer (Aaron), Lauren Rainen, Dr. Randy Kellerman, Janda Nielsen (Mark), Piper Rainen (Jack Dervin), McKenzie Muehlfelder (Ryan), Cassie Lewis and Kayla Slatinsky; and his five great grandchildren, Cameron, Lilly, Alex John, Ben and June. John was a hardworking man who worked until the day he died. He was a Naval Air Force mechanic and had a 40-year career as a pilot for TWA. John was also a well-known and respected homebuilder in the Kansas City area for more than 55 years. He enjoyed many things including hunting, fishing, traveling, growing tomatoes and his wife’s cooking, but what he loved most of all was spending time with his family. His eyes would light up anytime a family member walked into the room. He loved playing with his great grandchildren and granddogs, and teasing everyone with his ornery sense of humor. John was a loyal and loving husband, father, friend and mentor to many people and will be truly missed by all who knew him. We would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who took care of him during his short illness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or Catholic Charities.
