Jack was born October 2, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas to Marie Catherine (Glick) and Eugene Anthony McEnroe of St. Mary’s, Kansas. He graduated from Rockhurst College in 1951 with a degree in business administration.
Jack was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. After a brief assignment in finance, he was selected to serve in the Army’s Counter Intelligence Corps. He served at Fort Holabird, Maryland and western Europe as an intelligence analyst in the 430th CIC Detachment. After honorable discharge, he returned to Kansas City where he met and married the love of his life, Dolores “Toni” McEnroe on November 7, 1959. Together they raised three children – Melissa, Linda and John Daniel Jr. – in a home centered around faith and family. He treasured his family more than anything else.
He was a certified public accountant who, with several partners, operated their own CPA firm since 1971 – Cudney, Ecord, McEnroe and Mullane. Jack enjoyed coaching and supporting local athletic teams, especially those of his children and grandchildren. Jack and Toni enjoyed travelling and camping with their family growing up and throughout retirement in their RV. Parochial education was very important to Jack; it was a priority for him to support various Catholic missions and charitable organizations.
Jack was actively involved as a parishioner of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri. He was a member and past chairman of the City of Independence’s Public Utilities Advisory Board; University of Health Sciences (now KCUMB) Board; a member and past president of the Friends of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine; and a member of the Independence Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Kansas Society of CPAs.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Toni and his children, Missy (Mark) Leggett, Lindy (Jeff) Ford and J.D. (Sharon) McEnroe. Papa will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Danielle (Kyle) Bishop, Samantha (Jacob) Newman, Alexis (Tyler) Bodenstab, Jackson Leggett; Connor, Kristen and Kailee Ford; Morgan, Nicole and Lauren McEnroe. His memory will continue to be shared with his great-grandchildren, Brodie and Harper Bishop.
