John Blake Hegeman, 71, of Kansas City, MO died Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 9th at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Redemptorist Catholic Church at 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. Visitation on Thursday, October 8th from 6-8 pm at McGilley Midtown Chapel at 20 W. Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO. Burial Services on Saturday, October 10th at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa.
Blake was born November 9, 1943 in Waukon, Iowa to Don and Betty (Blake) Hegeman. Met his wife of 49 years, Catherine Dwyer, at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and they were married on February 19, 1966. He received his B.A. degree in 1967. He was employed for many years in trucking with Hertz, NationaLease, Care Truck Services and owner of Reefer Trucks and More. He retired 1 year ago. He loved his family more than anything in the world. He also loved getting daily coffee from Broadway Café, sharing dark chocolates, spending time and telling stories to his wonderful grandchildren, taking road trips to see family, spending time with his Newfoundland dog, Gander, having picnics, and taking walks on the Plaza. His endless positivity and humor will be missed greatly.
Blake was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ann Champion and brother Bill Hegeman. Blake’s survivors include his wife; children: Margo Gilhool and her husband Patrick, Robert and his wife Kari Hegeman, Joseph Hegeman, Thomas and his wife Marisa Hegeman, Annie Hegeman and her partner Tony Tejada, Jane Hegeman; siblings: Jeanne Hegeman, Jim Hegeman, Therese Hegeman, and Katherine Meyer and his 18 grandchildren.
