I have so many childhood memories of John, the little brother of my best friend Martha, who lived two houses down.  I remember John practicing his bowling form even as a little kid. He had aspirations  by age 5 of becoming a pro bowler! I'll never forget the laughs,  games and rides in the surrey that Martha, Mike (Mickey back then!), John and I enjoyed together growing up on Wyandotte. 

I am so sorry to hear today about John .  I now live in Texas so have not seen John for some time but he was a great guy and fabulous bowler.  His picture looks just like John has always been .  Thanks a bunch for that!  It was my privilege to know and bowl with John over the years.  Bless you, may God take care.

I knew John for more than 40 years. Bowled on teams with and against him. He was an awesome bowler and great competitor. Most of all he was a great friend; a kind and gentle soul with a wonderful spirit. Going to miss you John! RIP

I was privileged to have John as a neighbor and friend for many years.  He was one of the most kindest and sweetest person I ever knew.  He will always be in my thoughts and memories as one of those special people the world needs to show us we are all kindred spirits.  Love you John --  Pat 

I met John around 1983. He bowled on my teams on and off since then until I had to retire from the sport in 2010. We spent a lot of Tuesday nights together. I always referred to John as JD. 
JD was always just a nice sweet man with a fun grin, under a mustache for a lot of years. 
JD was also one of the best bowlers in Kansas City and I was fortunate that he would always want to be part of my teams, usually bowling in the cleanup spot.
He was always so kind to my 2 children whenever we were all together socially. He was especially kind to my son Spencer, who is a Special Needs adult now.  Spencer has Williams Syndrome.
We all have lots a great memories hanging with JD, He would go to the Martin City St. Patrick's Day Parade with my family.
We will miss JD tremendously.

John was a great neighbor. He will be missed. RIP

I only knew John for the last three years. But you wouldn't know that by how well he treated me. He only ever had positive things to say about me or the many people he knew or bowled with from years gone by. He was a kind soul and a lovely man. His absence will be felt by more than he may have known. I will miss my doubles partner. May he rest in peace. 

John was always such an upbeat, happy and welcome addition to any family gathering or celebration.  We were lucky to share many Christmas get-togethers with him, and he was a joy to be with.  His annual Christmas cards were both warm and thoughtful.  We had some interesting discussions at Aunt Baba's house and for weeks we laughed together about how John once spirited Baba away from the Forum nursing home in the dead of night.  

John was a beautiful light -- the world is a bit dimmer without him in it.  We will miss him.      Tom, Leslie, and Zach Dunn

From our adolescent days at Mission Bowl to when I last saw him at Ward Parkway not long ago where, we he saw me ran up and gave me a hug and asked, by name, about my brothers, John was always the same unique, genuine, thoughtful and sweet soul. God's peace my friend.

I've known John for 40 years, or so.  He was a very good bowler, always in great spirits and loved to laugh.   "John Boy", as I had affectionately nicknamed him, was a good friend to myself and many others.  He will most definitely be missed.

RIP, John Boy, may you be in no more pain and may you carry every 10 pin at Heavenly Bowl.

The many expressions of friendship and love for this very, very great, authentic, kind man who also happened to be a terrific bowler are uplifting. Even more so, during his time with us, John saw his kindness returned back to him many times over by those privileged to have him in their lives. He recognized that his presence, just his presence, brought joy to others and that he was appreciated and highly valued. A great man who gave and received blessings in life.

John was a great bowler, and even better person. He will be missed.

I don’t it’s humanly possible to have anything but positive things to say about John.  I only knew him for three years or so, but he definitely makes an impact on a person. His level of kindness was unmatched. His knowledge of the sport of bowling was unreal. One could sit and listen to bowling stories for days upon days yet still not hear all of what’s he’d done. The bowling community and the world lost a truly great man. Our loss is heavens gain. No one single memory can be mentioned without it linking to a number of others. I bowled with John for the past three years and the only regret I have is that I didn’t get to meet and get to know him sooner. We miss you my friend.
