John A. Boyd, Jr.

John A. Boyd, Jr. (Jack) passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024. Jack was born December 20, 1930 in Kansas City, MO to Frances and John A. Boyd, Sr. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1952 with a BS degree in civil engineering. While at KU, he met his wife of 71 years, Rosemary Kennedy Boyd. Together they raised 5 children, Mary Winter (Wint), John (Young), Tom, Chris (Nina) and Bill Boyd.

Jack was a naval aviator, serving on three aircraft carriers after his graduation from KU. He remained in the Naval Reserves achieving the rank of Captain. Jack started a successful civil engineering firm in the 1960’s which eventually merged with TranSystems in the 1990’s. He proudly served on many boards which were dear to his heart.

Jack was the best Papa to his 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Grilling hamburgers and playing whiffle ball in the backyard was a highlight, as was his customary salute when he said goodbye.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie; his son, Tom; and his grandsons Patrick and Brian.

A private celebration will be held at a later date.
