He was born in Dunnegan, Missouri on July 20, 1950 to Joey Coleman and Juanita May (Steele) Dodson, Sr. The family moved to the Kansas City Area and spent most of their time in Independence, Missouri.
He married Peggy Swadley on her eighteen birthday and he was twenty years old. He worked as equipment operator for Independence Pollution Water Control for over thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joey Dodson Sr. and Juanita Dodson, wife, Peggy, son, JC Dodson, and daughter, Kathren Dodson.
Joey is survived by his daughter, Michelle Dodson, grandchildren, Annette Dodson, Faith Dodson, Gabrielle Underwood and great-grandchildren, Ayden, Angelina and Asher.
