Born August 28, 1930, a lifelong Kansas City area resident and graduated from Northeast High School. She was a wave in the Military during WWII and worked at Allstate Insurance until she married her love, Larry Blanton, which lasted over 65 years.
Joan was a night owl and avid reader. She had a great sense of humor and knew no stranger. After four children, she later worked as a professional waitress until she retired. Joan devoted herself to her husband, family and many friends. She was the quite force within the family, and loved to celebrate holidays and special events in each of our lives, ensuring traditions will be passed on.
Joan was proceeded in death by her parents Thelma and Emory Oaks, and her brother Joe. She is survived by her husband Larry Blanton of Kansas City, Missouri, one brother Richard Oaks of Wheatland, Missouri and four children: Karen Murphy (Carl) of Belton, Missouri; Bob (Karin) Blanton of Kansas City, Missouri; Jim (Debbie) Blanton of Olathe, Kansas, & Michael Blanton of Kansas City, Missouri. Grandchildren: Dennis (Jamie) Murphy; Amanda (Brian) Hull; Jessica (Mitch) Lyman; Tyler (Stephanie) Blanton; Christina (Jesus) Vargas; Kevin (Jasmine) Blanton. Great-grandchildren: Jack Murphy, Addison, Ashlyn, Annaleigh & Brock Hull; Payton, Cooper, Cohen & Parker Lyman; Roxanne, Aubrey, Maverick, William Blanton; Andres, Anthony, Luis Vargas.

A funeral service will occur Friday, August 3, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
Entombment will occur Friday, August 3, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
Serving as pallbearers are Brian Hull, Mitch Lyman, Tyler Blanton and Dennis Murphy.
