Jerry Wayne Hinton

Jerry Wayne Hinton, 79, of Raytown, Missouri, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, September 26, 2021. He was surrounded by his wife Carol, three daughters Terri, Jerri and Kerri, their husbands Charlie, Sean and Scott, and his grandsons.

Jerry grew up in Rosedale, Kansas and graduated from Rosedale High School in 1960. Jerry’s love for sports started a young age. He was a member of the track team excelling in shot put. Jerry was a true entrepreneur. He owned multiple businesses including Dulcie’s Wig Imports, located in Kansas City’s Waldo District, with his father Richard and brother Ray. Later he co-owned Hinton Hardware with his brother Ray located in Overland Park, Kansas, with his final working years spent owning and operating Hinton Home Repair. He employed many family members along the way. Jerry was always a man of God with a servant heart for his church and those who attended. He served as the choir director at Rosedale Baptist Church for thirteen years. His love of sports continued when Jerry started a softball league at New Haven Baptist Church in Raytown, MO, where he coached, played and directed the league for several years. He served as a Sunday School Director at New Haven Baptist Church for many years. Jerry had one of the most generous hearts this world has ever known, leading him to even purchase a bus for the church youth group for transportation of many youth to be able to go on float trips, missions and other activities. As Jerry entered into his senior years, he continued his love of the game and founded the legendary KC Thunder Senior Softball team as a player and coach. He coached Thunder for many years and brought home three national championships. Jerry, along with friend Jerry Isenhower, founded the Heart of America Senior Softball League in Raytown. Jerry’s passion for the game was noticed by many which lead him to be inducted into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame. Later, he was the Founder and Tournament Director for the Isenhower Memorial Senior Softball Tournament in Kansas City, MO honoring his friend.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dulcie Hinton; Brother, Raymond; and his grandparents. Jerry leaves behind his loving wife Carol of 60 years; Daughters Terri (Charlie) Caby, Jerri (Sean) Hosey and Kerri (Scott) Ragsdale; grandchildren Jordan (Emilia) Caby, Jeremy (Lorraine) Ragsdale, Joshua (Megan) Ragsdale, Tyler Caby, Lauren (Nikki) Hosey and Colten Hosey. Great grandchildren: Caden, Ellie and Henry Caby; Rhett and Owen Ragsdale; nephews and nieces. Hospice Care was provided by the team at Novus Lifecare Hospice. A visitation for Jerry will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 1, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home.
