Janice is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bill Stewart. They were married on January 8, 1986 in Galveston, TX. Additional survivors include two daughters: Shannon St. Clair and Kim Lewis (Kenny); grandchildren: Andi St. Clair and Kaden Lewis; sibling: Gary Loudermilk (Mary); and niece and nephew: Jennifer Johnson (Scott) and Kevin Loudermilk (Niki).
Janice graduated from Temple High School in 1969 where she was salutatorian. She then attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in sociology in 1971. She earned the honor of Phi Beta Kappa there. She continued her education at the University of Texas Southwestern Health Science Center in Dallas and graduated with a degree in physical therapy in 1972. Her first job was at UTMB in Galveston where she was promoted rather rapidly from staff therapist to Director of Physical Therapy (PT). She practiced PT for 42 years working in many areas in a variety of places ranging from pediatrics to wound care to cancer care and 3 years for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Gatesville, TX.
Janice met and married Bill while working at UTMB in Galveston. While it wasn’t love at first sight, it became a strong and enduring love lasting 38 years this January 8th. When they married in 1986, Janice became step-mom to 2 beautiful girls, Shannon and Kim. What a joy to be a part of their lives and to watch them develop into accomplished and successful women. Janice was blessed with 2 grandchildren, Andi (granddaughter) and Kaden (grandson). She found so much joy watching them grow up, even designating her basement as “kidville”.
Janice retired in 2016 after she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. With excellent care from the KUCC, she and Bill traveled, enjoyed friends and family, and were active in their church.
Janice transitioned home to the Lord on December 8, 2023. A Memorial Service celebrating her life is 1:00 PM Friday, December 22nd at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, where friends may greet the family immediately following the service.
If you would like to make a donation in Janice’s memory, contributions are suggested to The American Cancer Society.
