James C. Scanlon passed away Saturday, February 25th. Jim was born November 10th, 1928 in Kansas City, Mo where he lived until his passing. The Scanlon Family patriarch was a faithful servant and an active member of St Theresa’s, Christ the King, St. Elizabeth’s, and St. Thomas More parishes. He attended and graduated from Hogan High School and St. Benedict’s College. His entire professional working career of 38 years was at General Motors Leeds plant primarily as a data processing supervisor. Jim was recognized by General Motors management as being the “Last Man Out” when the Leeds plant closed in 1988.
Preceding Jim in death were his beautiful bride Patricia M. Scanlon, daughter Teresa Mary, parents Gladys and Gerv Scanlon, sister Betty Vargon, and brother Buddy Scanlon. Surviving Jim are his sister, Maryann Smith, sisters in law, Jackie Scanlon and Rosanne Etheridge. Dad will be so very missed by his children, Michael Scanlon (Lynn), Tim Scanlon (Sandy Smith), John (Barbara) Scanlon, Chris Scanlon and Jean Marie (Chan) Peck. Grandchildren include Krystal, Hope, Matthew, Beau, Alia, Tricia, Sean, Tess, Kalie, Robert, Cooper and Carson. Great grandchildren Joshua, Abigail, Eloise, Luke, Gabriella, Sophia, Lilly, Jack, Mariah, and Laila.
The wake and rosary will be held Thursday, March 2nd at McGilley Memorial Chapels, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral mass will be Friday, March 3rd at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 10am. In lieu of flowers the family request donations in Jim’s name be made to Alzheimer’s Association at http://www.alz.org.
Dad will always be remembered for his generous soul as a member of CASA, sponsoring children in Guatemala through Unbound and coaching his sons' little league baseball teams. He was proud of his daily walks, his perfectly manicured yard and his NY Giants.
