Lupe, of Rosedale, KCK (born in Armourdale, KCK), passed away on January 16, 2022 after a short illness. He was a retired railroad employee at Burlington Northern Railroad (1997). He was an experienced waiter/server and banquet waiter in Kansas City’s finest hotels and restaurants. As a young man he volunteered and enlisted for the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1948. He was a Korean War veteran and honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He was an active member of local veterans groups such as the American Legion Post 213 and more so with the American GI Forum as an active member of the Color Guard for many parades, sporting events, and memorials.
Lupe was known for his love of animals, and his love for classic movies and music. He was an avid reader with a 6th grade education who taught himself worldwide experiences through travel and reading. He was a generous and humble man who always came to the aid of family, friends and strangers with assistance and friendship, he never said the word ‘’no”.
Lupe is survived by his wife, Angela, of 59 years; his Legacy is daughter, Angela Moreno, son-in-law, Raul; daughter, Christina Batrez, son-in-law, Manuel, all of Kansas City, KS; son, Ricardo Moreno, daughter-in-law, Lori, of Wichita, KS. Lupe leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Alex, Adrian (Evette), Gabriela (Jesus), Veronica, Samuel, Isabelle (Will), Haylen, Presley, Esperanza, and Modesta; 5 great-grandchildren, Xavier, Mauricio, Angelo, Teresita, Zavien, Zorella, Angelita (on the way), many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Moreno; mother, Carlotta Pantoja; and brother, Theodore Pantoja.
Lupe was our precious husband, dad, uncle, godfather, cousin and friend and will be missed and will live in our minds and hearts forever.
A Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown, 20 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64111. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at St. Agnes Church Catholic Parish, 5250 Mission Rd, Roeland Park, KS 66205. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N 38 St, Kansas City, Ks 66102.
