Gordon Tarwater

Gordon Kenneth Tarwater, 79, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018. Gordon was born October 18, 1938 in Kansas City, MO the son of Kenneth and Marian (Browning) Tarwater. He attended Sanford B. Ladd, Merriam grade school, Shawnee Mission high school and the University of Kansas. While in school he worked for the Kansas City Star. After college he entered the Air Force in 1961-1965 and was stationed at Hickam Air Force base in Hawaii as a programmer for the intelligence. Gordon was a member of Boy Scouts and Merriam Christian Church. His interests included raising flowers, many pets, playing golf, collecting LLadro collectibles and he traveled to over 40 countries. He was a programmer for TWA/ American Airlines for 36 years. He is survived by his 3 sisters, Joan Tarwater, Linda Firth and Susie Arnold (Tim); 4 nieces, Becky Schoenberger (John), Ann Rivas (Dago) , Liz Van Wormer (Michael) and Jenni Arnold (Orlando Blas); 9 great nieces and 2 great nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 9 am until service time at 10 am at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs or the Parkinson's Foundation.
