Gerald Joseph Heider (Jerry) age 85, passed away September 16, 2015 surrounded by family. Jerry was a devoted son and brother, loving husband, dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Uncle and friend. He was born October 15, 1929, in Kansas City, MO to the late Albert Edward and Mary Frances (Schleicher) Heider. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and Lillis High School. He played in the Ban Johnson baseball leagues around Kansas City playing for Milgram’s and Lapetina’s. Jerry also was recruited by the army to pitch in the army baseball team. After the army he continued to work for General Motors. On Oct 17, 1959 he was united in marriage to Blanche P. Gaggens. In 1979 he retired from General Motors Fairfax after 30 years of service. Jerry was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Kansas City and Warsaw, MO (Jay Harris Council #8620).
Jerry is survived by his wife, Blanche, his five daughters he loved DEARLY: Patricia (Bruce) Brosnahan of Warsaw, MO; Tammy (Billy) Heider of Kingsville, MO; Christine Heider (Jamal) Solaimanian of Little Rock, AR; Margaret (Tony) Martinez; and Catherine Newlen (Eddie Delgado) from Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren: Michael Brosnahan, Marc Brosnahan, Michelle (Eric) Batzer, Alex (Kelsi) Brosnahan; Justin (MeShell) Heider; Tommy (Jenna) Mosley, Mary (Micah) Mosley-Davidson, Joseph Solaimanian, Sara Solaimanian; Melissa (Rusty) Atwell, Elizabeth (Mike) Goodman, and Jessica Martinez; 8 great-grandchildren: Magan Brosnahan; Trenton Heider; Sophia and Brook Atwell; John, Anthony, and Natalie Goodman and Baby Davidson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings Patricia Heider, Mary Frances Nunnink, Albert A. Heider, and Paul Heider.
Visitation will be held be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Fathers Church, 3333 Broadway on Friday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO.
