Gary Lynn Setley, 78, of Loch Lloyd, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer. Visitation will be Friday, February 24th from 5:00-8:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 25th, 10:00am, at Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Boulevard, Leawood, Kansas, with interment to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Gary was born October 27th, 1938 in Sedalia, Missouri to Corder and Dorothy Setley. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna Swadley, and nephew Jeff Swadley. Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy, his sons Scott (Lori), Brian (Christine) and four beautiful grandchildren whom he adored; Sierra, Savannah, Jakob, and Elisabeth.
Gary grew up in Clinton, Missouri and moved to Kansas City his junior year of high school. Upon graduation from Paseo High School, Gary joined the US Navy where he was deployed on the Bon Homme Richard air craft carrier as a jet mechanic. After an honorable discharge in 1959, he returned to Kansas City to begin college and start his career with Marion Laboratories. On April 22nd, 1961, Gary married the love of his life, Judy Hetrick. Gary’s formal education culminated with an MBA from Rockhurst University as part of their first Executive Fellows Program. After 30 years at Marion, Gary retired and began fishing bass tournaments on a professional circuit for 12 years. Gary and Judy enjoyed traveling and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. In recent years Gary played lots of golf, took many trips to fish in Canada, and loved to work in the yard.
Gary was our rock and the heart of our family. He will be greatly missed!
