Gary Wayne Lumby, 60, of Blue Springs, MO, lost his battle to cancer on June 9, 2015 at the Kansas City Hospice House. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 14th from 4-6pm at McGilley & Sheil Chapel, 11924 E. 47th St., KCMO. A Celebration of Life Service held Monday, June 15th at 12pm at the same location.
Gary was born on June 25, 1954 in Hawaii to Lon & Martha Lumby and moved with his parents to Kansas City, MO. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School, DeLaSalle & St. Mary’s high schools. Growing up, he loved baseball and for many years played in the 3&2 and Ban Johnson leagues. After high school, Gary attended UMKC on a basketball scholarship where he met many of his very dear lifelong friends.
Gary met the love of his life Peggy Thomas & they were married in 1985. To this union was born a son, Gary Justin. Gary went to work for Metro Tile in 1980 & after 30 years retired as a member of the Bricklayer’s & Allied Crafts Local 15 Union. Gary was a big Royals & Chiefs fan and loved to watch the sporting events of his son Justin and his nephews & nieces. He loved to travel to Arizona, the crowd at the Corner Cocktail, casinos, Gate’s BBQ, music & float trips.
Gary is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; his son, Justin of Phoenix, AZ & his canine companions Bruiser, Daisy & Gracie; sisters, Lou Ann Parish of Lenexa, KS, Lori Kunz of Phoenix, AZ & brother, Jerry Lumby of Lee’s Summit, MO. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews and his aunt, Alice Lampone.
