Born on October 16, 1924, to Thomas and Stella (Koch) Scheijbal, Evelyn entered the world during a remarkable year marked by the first Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France, the debut of "Happy Birthday to You," and the publication of the first crossword puzzle book by Simon & Schuster.
Evelyn's love story began during World War II when she met her beloved husband, Robert G. Prewitt, while he was on leave in Kansas City. At that time, car ownership was on the rise, but people drove less and carpooled more. Evelyn's path crossed with Bob when he lent his automobile to his brother-in-law to carpool to work. Evelyn was a passenger, sparking their romance. After Bob’s second leave they soon married in Kansas City, Kansas, embarking on a journey that would span an incredible 70 years, culminating in a rare platinum anniversary—a testament to their enduring love.
Evelyn and Bob welcomed their cherished son, Dennis T. Prewitt, into their lives ten years after their marriage. Dennis was the brightest light in their world, and Evelyn poured her heart into nurturing him.
Despite the heartache of losing Bob to cancer in 2015, Evelyn continued to radiate love and joy. She found solace in tending to her beloved yard at their home, where she spent countless hours until her transition to Aspire Assisted Living.
Evelyn will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the profound love she shared with her family and friends. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert G. Prewitt. And her beloved son, Dennis T. Prewitt.
She is survived by her brother in law, Norman Prewitt (Phyllis), nephew Mike Harod (Beth) in North Carolina, niece Linda Kay Harod and niece Marsha Huddleston in Oklahoma, and nephews Jeff and Ray Again in Las Vegas.
