Evelyn L. Whitney Hall, age 88, passed on peacefully in her sleep due to complications from a fractured hip on November 14, 2017. Evelyn was born January 27, 1929, to Walter and Florence Whitney. As of her birth date, she was the largest baby born at the Kansas City General Hospital. She weighed 16 lbs. Evelyn and her family lived as extended family members on the Whitney Farm in Independence, MO. After moving back to the city, she attended Longfellow Elementary School. At the age of 10 years, she received a scholarship to the KC Art Institute. Evelyn graduated from East High School in 1946. She went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from the first class of X-Ray technicians at Menorah Medical Center. She worked several years as an X-Ray tech, and then moved into EKG and EEG training. She became the cardiovascular supervisor over the EKG and EEG Departments at Menorah for 15 years. During that time she wrote a training manual, received multiple letters of commendation for such things as developing a pre-operative diagnostic procedure, a personnel procedure for staph infections, for being an excellent supervisor, and having efficient staff that provided prompt service with a pleasant attitude. In 1960, she also suggested separating the dining area and lounge with folding or permanent doors to separate smokers from non-smokers. Evelyn was also very active at St. Bernadette Church. She was a Eucharist Minister and a CCD school teacher for ten years. She taught religion to 1st graders. It was a “job” she really loved. She was also on the Parish Council, the Legion of Mary as secretary, the council of Catholic Women, St. Joan of Arc Guild and the Human Concerns group. Evelyn also was a Eucharist Minister at nursing homes. Evelyn also became a medical transcriptionist at Truman Medical Center – Lakewood, from which she retired from her medical career in 1995. While there, she was an active member of the local, state and national association of medical transcriptionists, as well as being involved in the TMC – Lakewood Auxiliary. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin F. Hall; beloved son, Alan Whitney Hall; parents. Evelyn leaves behind her devoted daughter and her husband, Linda and Martin Flynn; brother and his wife, Jim and Jeanette Whitney; sister-in-law, Shirley Hall; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She loved arts and crafts, poetry, crocheting, reading, shopping, watching wildlife, church activities and at one time – dancing. Friends of Evelyn admired her for her strength, strong will and her compassion. Evelyn brought joy to those around her and was loved by most who knew her. She will be dancing in Heaven with her husband. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Tuesday, November 21, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 9020 E. 51st Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64133. Interment at Floral Hills. Visitation will be Monday, 5-7pm, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Arrangements: D.W.
